There are a couple things you can check. First, check the air filter. If it’s dirty, try replacing it. Has the circuit breaker been tripped? What about the thermostat? Did you check to make sure it’s turned on? Have you checked the thermostat’s battery recently?

Step 1. Check your thermostat. Double-check the setting is set to on.

Step 2. Check your furnace switch. It can get knocked off, so make sure it’s set to the on position.

Step 3. Check you circuit breakers. Did the furnace one trip?

Step 4. Is the filter clogged? Might be time to replace it with a new filter.

Step 5. Check the furnace front panel to make sure it is securely shut.

Step 6. Check the gas valve. Make sure that the position of the switch is set to on.

Step 7. Are the air ducts blocked? Double-check.

Step 8. If you’ve gone through this list and there’s still nothing, call a professional.

The age of your system is worth noting. Here’s what we recommend. Consider the cost of repair and frequency of repairs. Using these numbers, we’ll rely on the $5000 rule. What is that? First, multiply the age by the cost of repair per year. If that number comes in lower than $5000, repair it. For example, if your furnace is 12 years old, and the repair will cost $500, multiply 12X500=6000. The total figure is now greater than 5000, so in this situation we recommend that you replace the unit.

If you’re thinking about updating your air conditioning, you’ll want to know the size of your home, along with a few extra details. While a general rule of thumb states you’ll want about 1 ton of AC for every 500-600 square feet, it can be a bit more complicated than that. Consider the climate you live in, your insulation, how many people live in your home, along with things like how many windows and doors you have. When your unit isn’t working right, it can be frustrating. Sometimes it’s something as simple as the settings on your unit. Are they set to cool, and your fan set to auto? Water? Ugh! That can’t be good. No worries, it’s probably a simple fix. Check the drain line and make sure it isn’t clogged. If it is, use a wet/dry vac and attachment to clean it. This should help.
