Types Of Fireplaces

Wood Burning Fireplaces

Wood burning fireplaces are the classic yet most traditional type of fireplace. Depending on the build, they usually have either an open hearth or a closed combustion stove. As the wood sets on fire, there comes out a cracking sound of wood being burnt which gives quite an ambient feeling to many people. However, there is a risk involved as these types of fireplaces produce flying embers as well as hazardous smoke.

Electric Fireplaces

Electric fireplaces are a rather modern yet more easy type of fireplace to install and use. Not only are they cost-effective but also provide a sufficient amount of heat to the place where they are installed. They light-up electrically and comes in various models. For smooth operations, it is recommended to pay great head to electric fireplace inspection, repair, and regular electric fireplace maintenance.

Gas Fireplaces

In gas fireplaces, artificial logs with pebbles, embers, and glass fire crystals are enclosed within a glass panel. They are considered to be an economical and efficient type of fireplaces. Once you get the one, make sure to get into the proper gas fireplace maintenance and regular gas fireplace inspection and repair.

The Most Common Gas Fireplace Concerns

Clogged Burner Plate

Over time, the holes in the burner plate can get clogged with the carbon. A clogged burner plate interferes with gas reaching the pilot light, which will mean you may have problems turning your gas fireplace on. However, this problem can be fixed by turning off the pilot and closing the gas valve. Afterward, blow air through the holes. This will remove the carbon residue and any clogging.

Crazy Sounds From Fireplace

The blower sound is another common problem in gas fireplaces. When you hear bizarre sounds from your fireplace, like a grinding, roaring, or shrieking, it certainly raises some red flags. In such situations, the blower is malfunctioning and needs to be repaired or replaced.

How To Light A Gas Fireplace?

A gas fireplace is known for producing significant heat, along with a convenient process to light up. Want to know how to start a gas furnace? Following are the steps to turn on a gas fireplace:

  1. Remove the fireplace cover.
  2. Locate a fireplace key and insert it into the gas valve of the fireplace which can either be on the right or left side of the fireplace.
  3. Before turning the gas valve knob, make sure to have a lighter with enough head so that hands can be kept at a safe distance from the fire pit.
  4. Put the lighter’s head close to the fireplace burner and trigger the lighter fuel.
  5. Once the lighter is activated, turn the gas valve knob in a counter-clockwise direction to about half a turn.
  6. As soon as gas reaches the fireplace, the pilot will ignite and so does the fireplace.
  7. Once the pilot is lit, adjust the gas valve as per requirement.
  8. To make sure that excess gas does not escape into the room, immediately cover the fireplace with the front panel removed in step 1.

Does My Fireplace Need Maintenance?

Fireplaces needs to be inspected annually to remove any clogging. Moreover, an inspection of the chimney, fuel lining, and thermocouple should at least be done once in a year, so that no disruption should be experienced during the peak time of winters.
